Uganda Drilling Contractors' Association
The Uganda Drilling Contractors' Association was incorporated in 2016 as a limited by guarantee non-profit making entity. The association was set up to strengthen the drilling industry in Uganda by promoting professional drilling standards, build capacity of and awareness with the members and other stakeholders and by reviewing the policies, laws, regulations, procedures and drilling standards.
The UDCA has an office at the Aqua Complex in Kitintale. UDCA employs a part time General Manager and a full time technical assistant. The GM reports to the Board that consists of 9 members selected for a 2 year term during the Annual General meetings. The board meets every one to two months.
The UDCA works closely with the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) to reach their goals. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two entities in July 2017 which shows the importance of the role of UDCA to the MWE. The MWE participates in the board meetings and the Annual General Meetings and the UDCA board can call upon the MWE immediately when it is needed.
The membership fees for the UDCA have been set at a basic fee of 1,500,000 UGX (approximately US$350) per year and an additional fee of 10,000 UGX (3 US$) per borehole drilled, The low annual fee ensures that even small companies can become member while the per borehole fee ensures a fair contribution division between smaller and larger companies
